Pacific Horizon Travel Homes Rental Terms


Valid from 1 August 2019 – 31 March 2021

All rates are in New Zealand dollars (NZD) and include GST (sales tax).

Motorhome pick-ups and drop-offs are available from any of the Pacific Horizon Client Service Centres, located in Auckland, Wellington or Christchurch.

Daily (including weekends) 8.00am – 5.00pm.
Client Service Centres are closed on Christmas Day (25 December).

Note: Clients must be at the Client Service Centre for vehicle pick-ups & drop-offs before 4.30pm. Where applicable, agents need to allow appropriate time for clients to get from airports, ferry terminals and hotels to meet this requirement.

Courtesy transfers are available to/from our depots on both the day of pick-up and the day of dropoff, from/to Airports, Ferry Terminals, or City accommodation points within a 25km radius of our depot. These details should be confirmed as early as possible when booking.

If you drop off your motorhome at a different location from where you picked it up from, a $300 oneway fee applies.

Following completion of the Rental Vehicle Agreement at our depot, including sighting the driver’s license(s) for all potential drivers, a member of the Pacific Horizon team will walk you around both the outside and the inside of the motorhome to show and demonstrate how everything works, as well as to answer any questions you may have.

A detailed onboard Motorhome Manual is also supplied for your later reference, along with helpful travel information and/or maps – all FREE of charge.

The following additional equipment items are available for hire, and can be confirmed and paid for either at the time of booking or on the day of pick-up:
  • Picnic table                $30 per hire
  • Picnic chair                $15 per hire
  • Baby/Child Car seat  $35 per hire
  • Snow chains              $50 per hire
  • Bike rack                   $150 per hire
  • GPS Unit                   $6 per day (min charge of $60 / max charge of $150)
  • WiFi                           $35 for 1 GB / $65 for 5 GB / $120 for 10 GB
  • Additional linen set    $30 per set (sheet, pillow case, duvet cover)

All Pacific Horizon motorhomes come with comprehensive Insurance cover which insures against  recoverable 3rd party accident damage, theft and break-ins (excluding personal belongings).
An excess of $5,000 (per incident) applies in the event of any damage to either the Pacific Horizon motorhome or to 3rd party property.

Multiple windscreen and tyre damage is covered in all policies, as is overhead and under-body damage on the rented motorhome. A credit card imprint only (no money held or transferred) will be taken on motorhome pick-up. The amount will NOT be debited to your account and will only be done so in case of an accident. We retain the right to hold these details for 28 days after the hire.

Pacific Horizon Travel Homes offer the following options to reduce the excess of $5,000:
  • Excess Reduction Level 1: $29 per day (added to the daily hire rate)
    Reduces the excess for any damage to either the motorhome or third party property to a maximum of $2,000 (per incident). The total insurance charge is limited to a maximum of 50 days or $1,450.
  • Excess Reduction Level 2: $39 per day (added to the daily hire rate)
    Reduces the excess for any damage to either the motorhome or third party property to nil ($0) for the first incident/accident. The total insurance charge is limited to a maximum of 50 days or $1,950.
  • All Inclusive Package: $55 per day (added to the daily hire rate)
    Reduces the excess for any damage to either the motorhome or third party property to nil ($0) for the first  incident/accident. Plus, the following Additional Equipment is supplied at no charge as requested: Picnic table & chairs, Child/Booster seat(s) as required, Snow chains, GPS unit.

Any damage due to misuse or negligence to the motorhome interior and its fittings such as but not limited to roof vents, satellite dishes, locks and catches, outside step, grey waste cap and power cord is excluded from any insurance option.

A credit card imprint is required on all rental agreements. The credit card must be valid for 28 days after the end of the hire. In the absence of a credit card, Pacific Horizon requires a cash vehicle security bond of $5,000 ($2,000 if Excess Reduction Level 1 is taken, or $250 if Excess Reduction Level 2 is taken). This credit card imprint or cash will be held for 28 days after the return of the motorhome.

NOTE: The hirer is fully liable for any damage to the Pacific Horizon motorhome or third party property if:
  • The terms of the rental contract are breached.
  • Damage to the motorhome is caused by careless, wilful or reckless driving or breach of any New Zealand driving rules and regulations.
  • Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
  • Driving on restricted roads (as listed below).
  • Water submersion or salt water damage caused through the hirer’s fault.
  • Incorrect fuel is used.

The minimum rental period and cost is a 7-day hire. This is extended to a 14 day hire for the travel period of 16 December to 10 January.

Shorter rentals may be accepted entirely at the discretion of Pacific Horizon, but the minimum rental cost applies.

Motorhome rentals are calculated on a per calendar day basis, i.e. day of pick-up and drop-off is always counted as a full day irrespective of what time the motorhome is collected or dropped off.

Daily hire rates are automatically reduced for motorhome hires of 21 days or more.
  • 5% off for hires of 21-28 days
  • 8% off for hires of 29-39 days
  • 10% off for hires of 40+ days

A 3% discount off the daily hire cost of your Pacific Horizon motorhome is applied for any motorhome booking confirmed 120 days or more in advance of the pick-up date.

A valid full national driver’s licence is required. Non-English language national drivers’ licences must be presented in conjunction with an official translation, or a valid international driver’s licence must be shown.

The minimum age to drive a Pacific Horizon motorhome is 21 years.

  • Roads: Pacific Horizon motorhomes can be driven on any sealed/bitumen or well-formed gravel roads.
    No vehicle is to be driven on the following roads:
    - 90 Mile Beach, Northland
    - Colville Township to Port Jackson, Coromandel
    - Ball Hut Road, Mt Cook
    - Skippers Canyon Road, Queenstown
  • Animals: No animals are permitted in Pacific Horizon motorhomes, with the exception of guide dogs, subject to the approval of Pacific Horizon.
  • Smoking: No smoking is permitted in any Pacific Horizon motorhome.

Minor repairs (when the hirer is not at fault) up to $100 may be made without authorisation and will be reimbursed upon production of an itemised receipt. Amounts above $100 require approval from Pacific Horizon On-Road Care, and clients must retain an itemised receipt.

All Pacific Horizon motorhomes must be returned with:
  • A full fuel tank of diesel, that has been filled up within 3 kms of the drop-off location. Refuelling at our Client Service Centre will be charged at current rates per ¼ tank plus an administration fee.
  • An emptied toilet cassette.
  • An emptied grey waste water tank.
Charges will apply if the motorhome is dropped off at a location other than that which was agreed upon.

A non-refundable deposit equal to 10% of the total cost of hire (with a minimum deposit of $250 and a maximum deposit of $1,000) is required to confirm a booking. The balance of hire is due 28 days before motorhome pick-up, unless otherwise arranged.

Cancellation fees, charged as of the date of cancellation, are as follows:
  • If cancelled 29 days or more prior to motorhome pick up: No charge
  • If cancelled 28 – 11 days prior to motorhome pick up: 20% net price charged
  • If cancelled 10 – 4 day prior to motorhome pick up: 50% net price charged
  • If cancelled 3 – 1 day prior to motorhome pick up: 100% net price charged
  • No show or cancelled on the day of motorhome pick up: 100% net price charged
If a motorhome is returned early for any reason whatsoever, no refund is available

Once a booking is confirmed, any changes made that may shorten the hire will not be entitled to a refund. Changes to dates and/or locations may attract a relocation fee.

If, for reasons beyond our control, the reserved motorhome is not available, Pacific Horizon reserves the right to substitute a comparable or superior motorhome at no extra cost to the client. This shall not constitute a breach of contract and does not entitle the renter to any form of refund.

We accept Visa or MasterCard, with a 2.0% fee applying for the rental and any additional equipment hired if payment is made with either of these credit cards.

All charges include 15% GST.
All rates and conditions are subject to change in accordance with changes in government taxes.

Courtesy pick-ups are available between 8.30am – 4.00pm, with pick-up briefings taking approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour. Our friendly staff will show your clients through their motorhome/campervan to ensure they know how everything works, and to answer any of their questions about its operation before they begin their holiday.

Every motorhome also includes an easy to read Operating Manual containing relevant photos and diagrams for later reference, along with traffic rules and regulations. Additionally, we are happy to supply any national or regional travel maps, as well as
discuss any holiday advice or questions they have.

Pick-ups can be confirmed at any of the following locations:
  • Auckland Airport
    Once the client has cleared customs with their luggage, they should call NZ freephone 0800 705 893 for their exact pick up instructions.
    Note: The team will be expecting a call and do not enter the airport terminal.
    Please confirm their arrival details (time & flight number) with us as soon as they are known.
  • Wellington Airport
    Once the client has cleared customs with their luggage, they should call NZ freephone 0800 808 882 for their pick up instructions.
    Note: The team will be expecting a call and do not enter the airport terminal.
    Please confirm their arrival details (time & flight number) with us as soon as they are known.
  • Christchurch Airport
    Once the client has cleared customs with their luggage, they should make their way outside the terminal through Terminal Door 2, and head to the far right end of the terminal to Service Lane 2, where our team will be waiting with the motorhome.
    Note: The team do not enter the airport terminal. However, the client can call NZ freephone 0800 808 882 for any assistance if needed.
    Please confirm their arrival details (time & flight number) with us as soon as they are known.
  • Wellington Ferry Terminals
    Courtesy transfers are available from the Wellington ferry terminals.
    The name of the ferry company (InterIslander or Bluebridge) and the time for pickup should be confirmed as soon as it is known.
  • Auckland, Wellington or Christchurch Hotel/Motel
    Courtesy transfers are available from any city hotel or motel, within a 25km radius of our depot.
    The name and address of the accommodation and the time for pick-up should be confirmed as soon as it is known.

All motorhome drop-offs are to be made prior to 4.30pm at the agreed location, and the vehicle must have a full fuel tank of diesel, and an empty toilet cassette & waste water tank.

Courtesy transfers are available following motorhome drop-off to any Airport, Ferry terminal or Hotel/Motel within a 25km radius of our depot, and again the name of this should be confirmed as soon as it is known.

The rates on this website are often heavily discounted. This is due to our negotiated rates and bulk buying power. On very rare occasions, a rate may be displayed incorrectly due to our, or a vehicle supplier's error. In such a case, if you book with us at a quoted rate that is incorrect, we will notify you of any price change and give you the option to proceed or cancel. We make every effort to keep information on our site up to date, but we cannot guarantee this website is free of errors or omissions and retain the right to update or change the information published at any time.

To the extent permitted by law we/the owners of this website will not be liable to you or to any third party (whether in contract, tort, or otherwise) for any direct, indirect or consequential loss or damage (including but not limited to any accident, injury, delay or loss of enjoyment) arising out of your reliance upon information contained on this website, including but not limited to your use (or inability to use) any products or services described or procured through this website.

When you pick up your vehicle, you will be required to sign a rental agreement with the supplier of the vehicle. Your rental and use of the vehicle will be governed by the terms of the rental agreement and any other documentation or information provided to you by the supplier at the time you pick up your vehicle. The rental agreement is between you and the supplier and we will not be liable to you or to any third party in relation to the terms of the supplier’s rental agreement or any other documentation provided to you by the supplier at the time of pick up.

While we will make reasonable efforts to ensure we are representing only reputable suppliers, we make no warranty about the fitness or suitability of any third party (supplier) product or service and will not accept responsibility for the quality or fitness of any vehicle. If you encounter issues with the vehicle whilst on hire, you MUST report these issues directly to the relevant supplier at the earliest possible time. This will allow the supplier to remedy any issues and minimise any inconvenience to you.  If you fail to report any vehicle issues during your rental, it is likely that compensation will not be offered. We welcome feedback from our customers on their experience with our suppliers. We may, at our discretion, provide you with reasonable assistance in resolving any dispute you may have with a supplier.

Our total liability to you in relation to your use of this website and the information contained on this website will not exceed the dollar amount of the deposit we have received from you in relation to your booking/rental. Refunds will not be made for bookings cancelled due to inclement weather. Again, we strongly recommend that you take out travel insurance. Your use of this website is governed by the laws of New Zealand and the jurisdiction of the New Zealand courts.

Booking information
To make a booking you must complete our booking form which is easy to follow and secured with the latest encryption technology. Once we receive your form, we will, subject to availability, confirm your booking by emailing you a confirmation voucher and invoice. The deposit required to secure your vehicle (as shown on the secure booking page) will only be processed on your credit card when your booking is confirmed. Please note that a 2% credit card or debit card surcharge will be added when your payment is processed.

A booking is confirmed when you have been emailed a confirmation voucher and at this stage the deposit is processed on your card and becomes non-refundable and any cancellation fees stated in the supplier's terms apply. Upon receipt of your confirmation, please check your details carefully and notify us immediately if there are any incorrect details, as it may not be possible to make changes at a later date.

If you are booking via phone, please make sure you have read the terms and conditions of the vehicle you wish to rent first. Our reservations consultant will ask you if you have read the terms and agree to them before proceeding. The onus is always on the renter to ensure they make themselves fully aware of the terms displayed on our website.

Information disclosure
In booking on this website you acknowledge that we disclose your information to your selected Supplier in order to provide the requested rental services.

Please note that some suppliers treat an amendment as a new booking and apply the rate current at the time the amendment is made to recalculate the entire booking amount (not just the days changed). If the rental period is increased, an additional deposit may be required. If the rental period is shortened which results in a reduction of the rental charges, the deposit amount will remain unchanged, and the difference between the original and revised deposit is forfeited (it cannot be used towards remaining rental charges). To request a change to a confirmed booking, please use the alterations request link on your confirmation. Any alterations are subject to availability and the approval of the supplier. In addition to the alteration policy of the supplier stated in their terms, the following charges will apply:
Motorhome rental alterations (all charges stated in local currency): 25.00
The alteration fee will not be charged if your alteration request is not possible.

Vehicle Capacity and fitness to drive
Under no circumstances are you permitted to carry more passengers than the vehicle you rent is legally registered to carry, and if you do your insurance may be invalidated. The number of seatbelts (and passengers) is indicated next to each vehicle on this website. Luggage capacity where shown is an indication only and we will not be responsible should you be unable to fit your entire luggage into a vehicle. It is your responsibility to choose a journey that is within your capabilities. A vehicle supplier can refuse to rent a vehicle to any person who is in their opinion unfit to drive or does not meet eligibility requirements. In such circumstances we will have no further liability to you.

Refund Policy
We are committed to providing a quality service and aim for complete customer satisfaction. In the event of cancellation, any refunds or penalties are detailed in the terms and conditions of your selected vehicle that you are asked to read and accept at time of booking. In the event you are unsatisfied with our service, please contact us within 48 hours of placing your booking or request and we will work to resolve any issues and determine if compensation is due. In the event you have completed your rental and are unhappy with your vehicle, we are happy to assist you in seeking compensation from the operator of the vehicle.
