Tui Campers NZ Rental TermsImportant Information About Your Rentals
On arrival, you will be required to sign a rental agreement with the operators of Tui Campers NZ. Here is a summary of their terms and conditions.
The following definitions apply for the Terms and Conditions of Tui Campers NZ:
* The Supplier means the operator of Tui Campers NZ.
* The Client is also referred to as the hirer (s) or renter (s).
Summary of Rental Conditions
This document contains a brief summary of our rental conditions. The full details of our rental contract do apply. For detailed conditions, refer to the rental agreement upon vehicle collection. Rates quoted are in New Zealand dollars.
Deposits and Payments
A non-refundable booking deposit is required to secure your motorhome booking. The exact amount is detailed in the breakdown of pricing.
The remaining balance is due in full, 38 days before the commencement of hire (or upon confirmation for bookings made within 38 days of departure).
If the balance is not received 38 days prior, Tui Campers reserves the right to treat the booking as cancelled.
Once a booking has been confirmed and a deposit paid the booking is considered live and is subject to the cancellation policy.
The initial deposit paid is non-refundable. In addition to forfeiting your deposit, the following charges also apply:
- 23 - 32 days 20% of total reservation cost
- 13 - 22 days 40% of total reservation cost
- 4 - 12 days 75% of total reservation cost
- 3 days or No Show 100% of total reservation cost.
No refunds for cancellations made after the travel or travel date has commenced. If the vehicle is returned early for any reason whatsoever after travel has commenced then no refund is available.
- Amendments to increase the length of the booking can be made at no cost. Amendments to decrease the booking will be charged at a minimum of NZD$60.00 provided the amendments occur at least 33 days prior to departure date.
- If rental dates are amended within 17 days of vehicle pick up, no refund will be made if the hire is shortened.
- If the pick-up or drop off rental location is amended within 17 days of vehicle pick up, a relocation fee may apply.
- Changes to the drop off rental location after the rental has commenced must be approved by TUI reservations. If approved a minimum charge of NZ$750 may apply.
- Rental extension, whilst on hire, must be approved by TUI reservations. The extra cost must be paid on confirmation of the rental extension.
We strongly recommend that clients ensure they take out the highest level of travel insurance. In many cases, this will cover any losses incurred if you are forced to cancel your booking.

Rental Duration: For Rentals from – to our Auckland and Christchurch Depot's
Minimum rental period: 5 days. Minimum rental is extended to 14 days for travel between 20 December and 10 January. For Rentals involving a use of a Remote Location, the minimum hire period is 14 days from 11 January to 1 April. Minimum hire period of 5 days applies from 2 April to 19 December. Vehicle rentals are calculated on a per calendar day basis, i.e. day of pick-up or drop off is always counted as a full day irrespective of what time it is collected or dropped off. Minimum rental period is subject to change during peak periods. Vehicles are required to be collected and returned within business hours.
Each day after the final hire day, that the vehicle is not returned, you may be charged double the daily gross rental rate.
Late pick-up or early return of vehicle does not entitle the hirer to any refund of the unused portion of the rental.
Tui has branches close to Auckland and Christchurch Airports. Queenstown, Dunedin, Wellington, Picton, and Greymouth is available on application for a small fee of NZ$650 for pick-up and/or Drop-off by prior arrangement only. Operational times are restricted by travel limitations and by bus/air/train times. Branches are open seven days a week.

High Season(01 Oct - 30 April): Monday to Sunday 8:00 am - 5:00 pm
Low Season( 01 May - 30 Sept): Monday to Sunday 9:00 am - 4:00 pm
All branches are closed on Christmas Day (25 December).
Vehicle pick-up and return times are as follows: Pickup – between 8.30am and 4.00pm. ( 9.30am and 3.00pm winter) so please consider your hire start date with this in mind if your flight arrival does not allow sufficient time to be at the depot at these times. A $50 late collection fee can be pre-arranged if you cannot arrive before this time. This is not guaranteed and applies only within 1 hour after closing time if agreed.
Our rates include GST of 15%.
Road User Charges
Road User Charges apply to all diesel vehicles and are payable by the hirer to Tui Campers. Road User Charges will be calculated and collected at the end of the hire and are based on the kilometres travelled during the hire. The hirer is liable for NZ$6.80 per 100km travelled. The hirer is not responsible for the Road User Charges if Bond Waiver insurance/Excess Reduction is selected directly with Tui Campers.
The vehicle is fully insured in case of accident damage or loss of contents (excluding personal belongings). There is an excess/deductible of NZ$4000 ($5000 for drivers under 25 Years of age), for Deluxe Sleepervan it's NZ$2000 ($3300 for drivers under 25 Years of age). This covers the cost of damage to Third Party property or to the rented vehicle, including single vehicle accident, windscreen and tyre damage overhead and underbody damage, towing and recovery costs, theft, fire, break-in or vandalism. This also includes the cost of the daily rental rate for the period the vehicle is off fleet for accident repairs. The Liability applies in respect of each claim, not per rental. In addition to the Liability, an administration fee of $150 will be charged per claim.
When you collect your vehicle we take an impression of your credit card for the bond of NZ$4000 (NZD$2000 for Deluxe Sleepervan). This is the insurance excess for any single accident which may occur during your holiday. Drivers aged 21-24 Years the bond is $5000 (NZD$3300 for Deluxe Sleepervan). The impression of your credit card covers your accident-damage bond liability plus any extra costs such as fuel fill-up, emptying of the toilet at the end of hire, or any traffic infringements, losses or breakages. A credit card imprint must be on all rental agreements and must be the credit card of the main hirer unless prior arrangements have been made. We do not deduct the bond from the credit card, but merely hold the authority to deduct it in the unfortunate event of an accident. Where a credit card is not available, a cash bond will be held by Tui Campers for 21 Days following hire.
Bond Waiver/Excess Reduction
Tui Campers offers Excess Reduction as an optional extra at a fixed rate of NZ$30.00 per day ($37 per day for drivers under 25 years), for Deluxe Sleepervan it's NZD$20.00 per day ($25 per day for drivers under 25 years). This has a nil excess that covers you if you have an accident with another vehicle whether your fault or not, (especially if you have an accident with another vehicle and they have no insurance).
This Excess Reduction also has a nil excess that covers any accidental damage to Windscreens including replacement plus accidental damage to tyres. Excess Reduction does not cover you if you have a misjudgment of dimensions, eg hit a stationary object.
Please note that Excess Reduction is completely optional and can be decided upon collection of your vehicle. This additional insurance only covers you for one incident where after your standard excess applies. You can apply to purchase this cover for the remaining days of you hire.
TUI CAMPERS STRONGLY RECOMMENDS OUR CUSTOMERS TO TAKE THE BOND WAIVER INSURANCE TO MINIMISE EXCESS EXPOSURE AND TRAVEL WITH PEACE OF MIND
Bond waiver does not cover:
- Any water related damage, which includes but is not limited to:
a) Any vehicle submersion.
b) Creek or river crossing.
c) Driving through low plain flooded areas.
d) Beach driving.
- Personal belongings: We recommend the hirer does not leave valuables in the vehicle and that they take out personal insurance.
- The terms of the Rental Agreement are breached. The hirer will be responsible for the total cost of any damage. This will also include any damage caused by willful misconduct (e.g. sitting or standing on the bonnet or roof of the vehicle) and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
- The incorrect use of fuel (fuel being diesel or petrol). The hirer will be responsible for any associated cost.
- The cost to retrieve or recover a vehicle which has become bogged.
- The cost to replace keys, which have become lost, or retrieval of keys, which have been locked in a vehicle.
- Overhead and underbody damage to the vehicle.
- Any damage arising from misjudgment of dimensions.
- Driving on restricted roads.
Accessories are available to hire off Tui Campers. It is best to pre-order these to guarantee availability. You can still order the accessories at pick up but your first choice may not be available. Please note the Hirer is fully liable for all costs if the accessories are lost, damaged or stolen regardless of what Excess Reduction Option was taken.
Vehicles must be collected and returned to our branches (not airports). A transfer to the Tui branch from the Airport and vice versa is provided free of charge. This also includes airport accommodation. Please advise Surname, Reservation Number, Arrival Terminal or hotel name and Number of Passengers requiring collection when you contact us. Our courtesy collection is normally within 30 minutes and operates up to 1 hour prior to close.
We only accept Visa or MasterCard. These cards will incur an additional 2% surcharge on any transaction.
Exchange Rate/Currency Variations
All credit card transactions are conducted in New Zealand dollars. Due to exchange rate fluctuations, there could be some variance in the amount refunded compared to the amount initially charged. We do not accept any liability for variances up or down. Refunds by credit card can take up to 15 working days depending on the renter’s Financial Institution.
Driver’s license, Minimum age, and Additional drivers
A valid full (non-provisional) national drivers license is required. Non-English language national driver's licenses must be presented in conjunction with an official translation or valid international drivers license. The minimum age is 21 years. Additional drivers must meet all Tui rental requirements, be at the depot at the time of vehicle pickup and sign the rental agreement.
Each vehicle is supplied with complimentary general equipment (such as pegs and clothes line, dustpan/brush, fire extinguisher and bucket/hose).
Kitchen and Personal kits
Each vehicle is supplied with complimentary living equipment (such as bedding, cooking equipment, eating utensils, bath and tea towels.)
Maps and Campground guides
Each vehicle is supplied with a complimentary Road Atlas as well as campground guides.
On pick up of the vehicle, our staff will provide a complimentary vehicle consultation. This includes an explanation of all the interior and exterior features of the vehicle as well as driving tips.
Smoking and Animal Restrictions
Smoking in Tui vehicles is strictly prohibited, and offenders will be charged a fume removal fee of NZ$500. Animals are also not permitted in any Tui vehicle and the same cleaning fee will apply.
L.P. Gas Refill Service Fee
The gas bottle(s) is supplied full. A service fee is payable on pick up of the vehicle:
- $28 - Hitop Campervan, 2 Berth S/T Camper, and Bushcamper
- $38 - 4 and 6 Berth Motorhomes
The gas bottle can be returned empty to Tui at the completion of the rental.
Additional Equipment For Hire:
- Camp Chairs - $15 each per rental
- Camp Table - $18 per rental
- Outside BBQ - $50 per rental

- Chilly/Eski Bin - $10 per rental
- GPS - $6 per day (min NZ$70 - max $140)
- Snow Chains - $45 per rental (must be pre-booked)
- Baby High Chair - $30 per rental
- Baby Porta Cot - $40 per rental
- Baby Seats* - Baby seats (must be pre-booked) suitable for children NB to 3 years of age can be fitted to the Motorhome Range. Cost is $40 per rental.
- Booster Seats* - A booster seat (must be pre-booked) suitable for a child between 3 and 8 years of age can be supplied for the Motorhome Range. Cost is $40 each per rental.
Baby and Booster Seat Details
By law in New Zealand, all children under five years of age must be in an "approved" child restraint. An adult safety belt is not considered to be a suitable restraint for a child under five. An "approved" restraint is one which is suitable for the age, size and weight of the child.
There are two Trail Finder models, both with different layouts.
For the Trail Finder, the Baby seat is to be fitted in the middle seat in the driver’s cab. Due to this being a tight fit, we recommend that a 4+1 Trail Finder is considered when travelling with a small child for space and bonus feature is the microwave (handy for heating baby’s bottle up)
For the 4+1 Trail Finder, the Baby seat can be fitted in the rear dining area with a diagonal seatbelt and tether clip.
Baby seats cannot travel in these vehicles due to front passenger airbags
Trail Blazer and Trail Explorer
Baby seats are fitted in the dining areas and are forward facing with diagonal or lap belts and tether clip.
Not all Tui vehicles can accommodate all types of child restraint equipment.
Please note the legal requirement in NZ for child restraints:
Children Under 5 Years Old
- Must be properly restrained by an approved child restraint.
- They must not travel in the car if you can’t put them in an approved child restraint.
Children 5 to 7 Years Old
- Must use a child restraint if available.
- If there is no child restraint available, the child must use a safety belt.
Baby or booster seat cannot be fitted in 2 berths s/t Trail Seeker camper.
If the vehicle is not returned in an identically clean state as it was supplied, a fee of NZ$200 will apply
Public Holiday vehicle collection and returns will incur a one-off fee of $50 to be paid at pick up. Tui Campers is open on the following Public Holidays: 1st and 2nd January, Waitangi Day, Good Friday, Easter Monday, ANZAC Day, Queens Birthday, Labour Day, Boxing Day, Auckland and Christchurch anniversary days.
If the toilet (where applicable) is not returned empty, a fee of NZ$100 will apply
If the waste tank (where applicable) is not returned empty, a fee of NZ$100 will apply
Consecutive rentals can be combined to qualify for a long-term discount rate. Rentals in Tasmania (Australia) and New Zealand can be combined to obtain a long-term discount rate, providing travel is within a 3 month period. If drop off of a vehicle and pick up of a new vehicle occurs on the same day then a day each will be charged per respective vehicle. Multiple rentals are treated as separate rentals under the one-way fee and minimum rental period conditions.
The two main islands of New Zealand, the North Island and South Island, are separated by sea and require a ferry trip. If you wish to hire from Auckland to Christchurch or vice versa you will require a ferry. The ferry trip takes approx. 3.5 hours and there are several sailings per day in each direction.
During the peak tourist months November to March, reservations are highly recommended. Ferry pricing is based on the length of the campervan/motorhome. Please consult our vehicle pages for the length of the vehicle.
Tui vehicles can only be driven on public roads sealed/unsealed. No vehicle is to be driven on the following roads: Skippers Canyon Road, Ball Hutt Road, 90 Mile Beach, Cape Colville to Port Jackson Road and all unsealed ski access roads.
Change Of Drop Off Destination
If the renter wishes to change the drop off destination after the rental has commenced, they first must obtain authorisation from Tui Reservations in Christchurch. Subject to the change being approved, a minimum additional charge of $750 may apply.
If the customer wishes to extend the rental whilst on hire, they must first obtain authorisation from Tui Reservations in Christchurch who will advise of the additional costs. A rental extension is subject to fleet availability. The extra cost (Gross Rate) of an extended rental must be paid by credit card over the telephone or at a Tui Branch immediately on confirmation of the rental extension.
Failure to obtain authorisation will result in the renter may be being charged double the daily gross rental rate.
Tui will not honor calculation errors. Should a calculation error occur Tui will charge for the shortfall.
Although we run late model vehicles, it may happen that small repairs are required.
Repairs up to NZ$100 may be affected without authorisation and will be reimbursed upon presentation of a receipt. For amounts over NZ$100, Tui will need to be informed in advance. Repairs will be approved provided the customer was not directly responsible for the damage. Receipts must be submitted for any repair or the claim will not be paid.
Customer Care On Road Assistance
Any problems associated with the vehicle, including equipment failure, must be reported to Tui as soon as possible and within 24 hours in order to give Tui the opportunity to rectify the problem during the rental. Failure to do so will compromise any claims for compensation. Tui does not accept liability for any claims submitted after this period.
Infringements and Administration fees
Tui reserves the right to charge the hirer for any speeding, toll way or parking fines and/or vehicle damage including Third Party property damage not reported on return of the vehicle. In addition to these costs, Tui reserve the right to charge for associated administration costs for processing the fines (irrespective of excess) and/or all insurance claims in the event of the customer not having a NIL excess. In addition to the costs associated per fine and/or insurance claim, an administration fee of $60 will be applicable.
Change Of Vehicle
Should the vehicle booked be unavailable through unforeseen circumstances, we reserve the right to substitute an alternative vehicle without prior notification and at no extra cost. This shall not constitute a breach of contract and does not entitle the renter to a refund.
Vehicles cannot be requested by make or model, only by vehicle category.
Should the renter decide to take a lesser vehicle than booked within 14 days of pick up or during the rental then they will not be entitled to any refund.
Limit of Liability
In the event of no alternative vehicle being available to the renter our liability is limited to a refund of the hire charge or in the case of mechanical failure (unless caused by the renter) the remainder of the hire period.
One Way Hires
Where pick-ups originate from Auckland and return in Christchurch and the pick-up is between:
– 1 April 2017 and 30 September 2018 – a one way fee of NZ $100.00 applies.
– October 2017 and 31 March 2018 – a one way fee of NZ $200.00 applies.
Where pick-ups originate from Christchurch and return to Auckland and the pick-up is between:
– 1 April 2017 and 30 September 2018– no one way fee applies.
– 1 October 2017 and 31 March 2018 – a one way fee of NZ $100.00 applies.
Short hires of under 5 days are often available. Mileage is limited to 150Km per day. Extra km will be charged @ $0.35. An additional $50 cleaning fee will apply.
On-Road Assistance - Mechanical Faults
The liability of Tui Campers Ltd extends to either replacing your vehicle with a similar one or refunding your hire charge for any days you lose the total use of the vehicle. If the vehicle has any mechanical failures these problems must be reported to Tui Campers as soon as possible in order to give Tui Campers the opportunity to rectify the problems during the rental. The hirer is not entitled to any refund at the end of the hire period unless Tui Campers has been advised of the problem earlier, and has been given the opportunity to rectify the situation. Tui Campers does not accept any liability for any claims made after this point. Tui Campers is not liable for any delay in repair caused by the breakdown occurring on a weekend or a public holiday. A refund can be requested if the breakdown has directly caused a delay in the travel of 48 hours or more if the delay is less than 48 hours in one location Tui Campers can deny the refund request at its own discretion.
Maintenance and Repairs - Equipment Faults
The hirer shall take all reasonable care to ensure that the vehicle is properly maintained. This shall include daily checks to the oil, water, and batteries. The hirer shall be liable for any cost associated with the incorrect use of fuel (fuel being diesel or petrol), including putting fuel in the water tank. The failure of accessories such as TV, DVD, CD player, microwave, gas heater, air conditioning unit, fridge, and hot water heater do not constitute a breakdown. Any problems associated with the vehicles equipment must be reported to Tui Campers as soon as possible and within 24 hours in order to give Tui Campers the opportunity to rectify the problem. Failure to do so will compromise any claims as we cannot accept liability for any claims submitted after this period. Tui Campers will endeavor to facilitate on-road repairs however should the repair not be possible or fail the hirer is not entitled to a vehicle change or compensation. No alternative accommodation or food items will be paid for during down time.
All vehicles are supplied with a full tank of fuel at the start of hire and must be returned with a full tank at the end of your hire otherwise a refueling fee will apply.
Illustrations and text in any of our brochures or website are a representation only of the vehicle depicted. Variances in the vehicles offered for rental may occur due to substitutions made by Tui or modifications and/or upgrades to the vehicle design made by the manufacturer. Prices may be subject to change due to factors beyond the control of Tui Campers Ltd. Any changes in price affecting a client between the time of booking and payment received will be advised immediately. The company takes no responsibility for any detention, delay, loss, damage or injury that a hirer might experience no matter how it is caused or by whom. The company’s rental agreement is the sole contract for hiring the vehicle, between the company and the hirer and passenger(s). No refunds are payable on accommodation, or Motorhome/ Campervan not being available, where a hirer or passenger amends, cancels or seeks to vary agreements after departure. These conditions cannot be varied or altered or waived by any employee, agent or representative of the company or by anyone providing services or facilities. The company cannot be bound by any representative or statement unless it is confirmed in writing by the company’s directors or management. Terms of booking on this website
The rates on this website are often heavily discounted. This is due to our negotiated rates and bulk buying power. On very rare occasions, a rate may be displayed incorrectly due to our, or a vehicle supplier's error. In such a case, if you book with us at a quoted rate that is incorrect, we will notify you of any price change and give you the option to proceed or cancel. We make every effort to keep information on our site up to date, but we cannot guarantee this website is free of errors or omissions and retain the right to update or change the information published at any time.
To the extent permitted by law we/the owners of this website will not be liable to you or to any third party (whether in contract, tort, or otherwise) for any direct, indirect or consequential loss or damage (including but not limited to any accident, injury, delay or loss of enjoyment) arising out of your reliance upon information contained on this website, including but not limited to your use (or inability to use) any products or services described or procured through this website.
When you pick up your vehicle, you will be required to sign a rental agreement with the supplier of the vehicle. Your rental and use of the vehicle will be governed by the terms of the rental agreement and any other documentation or information provided to you by the supplier at the time you pick up your vehicle. The rental agreement is between you and the supplier and we will not be liable to you or to any third party in relation to the terms of the supplier’s rental agreement or any other documentation provided to you by the supplier at the time of pick up.
While we will make reasonable efforts to ensure we are representing only reputable suppliers, we make no warranty about the fitness or suitability of any third party (supplier) product or service and will not accept responsibility for the quality or fitness of any vehicle. If you encounter issues with the vehicle whilst on hire, you MUST report these issues directly to the relevant supplier at the earliest possible time. This will allow the supplier to remedy any issues and minimise any inconvenience to you. If you fail to report any vehicle issues during your rental, it is likely that compensation will not be offered. We welcome feedback from our customers on their experience with our suppliers. We may, at our discretion, provide you with reasonable assistance in resolving any dispute you may have with a supplier.
Our total liability to you in relation to your use of this website and the information contained on this website will not exceed the dollar amount of the deposit we have received from you in relation to your booking/rental. Refunds will not be made for bookings cancelled due to inclement weather. Again, we strongly recommend that you take out travel insurance. Your use of this website is governed by the laws of New Zealand and the jurisdiction of the New Zealand courts.
To make a booking you must complete our booking form which is easy to follow and secured with the latest encryption technology. Once we receive your form, we will, subject to availability, confirm your booking by emailing you a confirmation voucher and invoice. The deposit required to secure your vehicle (as shown on the secure booking page) will only be processed on your credit card when your booking is confirmed. Please note that a 1.95% credit card or debit card surcharge will be added when your payment is processed.
A booking is confirmed when you have been emailed a confirmation voucher and at this stage the deposit is processed on your card and becomes non-refundable and any cancellation fees stated in the supplier's terms apply. Upon receipt of your confirmation, please check your details carefully and notify us immediately if there are any incorrect details, as it may not be possible to make changes at a later date.
If you are booking via phone, please make sure you have read the terms and conditions of the vehicle you wish to rent first. Our reservations consultant will ask you if you have read the terms and agree to them before proceeding. The onus is always on the renter to ensure they make themselves fully aware of the terms displayed on our website.
In booking on this website you acknowledge that we disclose your information to your selected Supplier in order to provide the requested rental services.
Please note that some suppliers treat an amendment as a new booking and apply the rate current at the time the amendment is made to recalculate the entire booking amount (not just the days changed). If the rental period is increased, an additional deposit may be required. If the rental period is shortened which results in a reduction of the rental charges, the deposit amount will remain unchanged, and the difference between the original and revised deposit is forfeited (it cannot be used towards remaining rental charges). To request a change to a confirmed booking, please use the alterations request link on your confirmation. Any alterations are subject to availability and the approval of the supplier. In addition to the alteration policy of the supplier stated in their terms, the following charges will apply:
Motorhome rental alterations (all charges stated in local currency): 25.00
The alteration fee will not be charged if your alteration request is not possible.
Vehicle Capacity and fitness to drive
Under no circumstances are you permitted to carry more passengers than the vehicle you rent is legally registered to carry, and if you do your insurance may be invalidated. The number of seatbelts (and passengers) is indicated next to each vehicle on this website. Luggage capacity where shown is an indication only and we will not be responsible should you be unable to fit your entire luggage into a vehicle. It is your responsibility to choose a journey that is within your capabilities. A vehicle supplier can refuse to rent a vehicle to any person who is in their opinion unfit to drive or does not meet eligibility requirements. In such circumstances we will have no further liability to you.
We are committed to providing a quality service and aim for complete customer satisfaction. In the event of cancellation, any refunds or penalties are detailed in the terms and conditions of your selected vehicle that you are asked to read and accept at time of booking. In the event you are unsatisfied with our service, please contact us within 48 hours of placing your booking or request and we will work to resolve any issues and determine if compensation is due. In the event you have completed your rental and are unhappy with your vehicle, we are happy to assist you in seeking compensation from the operator of the vehicle.
